Cork carer Deborah McCarthy has been announced as the Cork regional winner and finalist in Right at Home’s Carer of the Year Awards 2025.

The awards, set to take place on October 17 in Kildare, recognise and celebrate the hard work and dedication of care staff who play a significant role in their communities.

Carers recognised enable elderly people and people with disabilities to continue to live independent lives in the comfort of their own homes.

Presented by Right at Home, a provider of in-home care and assistance for seniors and adults, the awards were established in 2020 to highlight the heroic work of carers.

Nominations for Right at Home’s Carer of the Year finalists were submitted by clients, clients’ families, co-workers, managers, and supervisors.

Ms McCarthy will join six other candidates at the special awards ceremony, where Right at Home's National Carer of the Year 2025 will be crowned.

Cian O’Sullivan, who is the managing director of Right at Home Cork said the organisation takes pride in “carefully selecting the right members to join our close-knit team”.

“Deborah has shown outstanding dedication since joining our team,” said Mr O’Sullivan.

“She approaches her work with empathy and professionalism and consistently goes the extra mile for her clients.

“Her nomination is a well-deserved recognition of the positive impact she has every day, and we are thrilled to see her efforts celebrated at a national level.” Ms McCarthy said that she is “honoured to be nominated for the Carer of the Year Awards”.

“Caring is not just a job, it’s about building trust and real connections with people,” said Ms McCarthy.

“The bond between our clients and team makes every challenge worthwhile, and I’m proud to represent my colleagues at Right at Home Cork in these awards.” As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting communities, Right at Home has also launched its ‘Road to 1000’ recruitment campaign, aiming to hire 1,000 new carers nationwide.

The initiative is designed to meet the growing demand for quality home care while creating new career opportunities in local communities across Ireland.
