Dragon of Shandon help out

Blackpool’s Cork Community Art Link is busy readying some fantastical creations ahead of the Dragon of Shandon on October 31.

Volunteers are four weeks into their work but can always do with more help.

The organisation said on its Facebook page: “CCAL volunteers have been busy bringing the dragons legion of loyal ghouls, beasts, misfits and demons to life. We can’t thank them enough. So, if you want to jump in and help them wake up the dead, then drop by from Tuesday to Thursday, 2pm to 5pm at The Lido in Blackpool. “

Acclaimed show at Firkin

Shandon’s Dance Cork Firkin Crane will welcome an award-winning First Nations choreographer and dancer to Cork with a critically acclaimed show on Friday and Saturday October 10 and 11.

Rinse is a solo dance work by Bundjalung and Ngapuhi choreographer and dancer Amrita Hepi, co-written and directed by Mish Grigor. The work, called ‘a standout performance’ by Dance Australia, explores the concept of ‘beginnings’ through a critical lens, the work deconstructs the over-emphasis Western culture places on beginnings and linear time.

Instead, using a highly physical and striking dance vocabulary, alongside a twisting and evocative text monologue, Hepi argues all events, projects, relationships, moments and environments exist together as part of a vast continuum to which we constantly contribute; a body of knowledge and care to which everything is inextricably linked.

With costuming, and live sound by composer Daniel Jenatsch, Rinse unfolds on a stark and simple set.

This radical and decolonial work originated as a short piece which took out the People’s Choice Award as part of the Keir Choreographic Awards and has subsequently been developed into a full length production.

See Rinse at Dance Cork Firkin Crane on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 October at 7:30pm. Tickets €15/€12 from https://dancecorkfirkincrane.ie.
