An intoxicated man who was spotted urinating in the street in a Cork town has been convicted in the district court.

Court presenter, Sergeant Majella O’Sullivan, told Youghal District Court that a member of the public reported a highly intoxicated man on North Main Street, Youghal, on July 29, 2025 at 9.45pm.

Garda Lee Donnelly attended the scene but when he arrived the man was no longer on North Man Street.

A short time later, the suspect, identified as Stasys Serbickas, aged 37, with an address at the Cork Simon Community was spotted on Catherine Street, a short distance away.

Garda Donnelly told the court that Mr Serbickas was highly intoxicated, was staggering and proceeded to urinate against a wall.

He was arrested for his own safety and the safety of others and taken to Youghal Garda Station.

The court heard that Mr Serbickas, who did not appear at the hearing, had no previous convictions.

Judge John King convicted Mr Serbickas of being intoxicated in public and fined him €200, allowing two months to pay the fine.
