A cyclist who died after she was hit by a truck in Cork has been named as 26-year-old Manani Oskau from Tokyo in Japan who only moved to Ireland earlier this year.

The collision occurred at the junction of Albert Street and Albert Road in Cork city at 6.15pm on Thursday.

Emergency services and gardaí rushed to the area. However, Ms Oskau was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body was taken to the morgue at Cork University Hospital (CUH) for a postmortem examination. The truck driver was not injured in the incident.

It is understood that the parents of the deceased will arrive in Ireland this weekend. The young woman was in Ireland on a work visa and was employed at a restaurant in Cork city.
