Afternoon for artists

The Everyman’s regular artists’ afternoon takes place this month and all arts’ workers and artists are invited to attend.

The Everyman bar will be open for free tea, coffee, and chats on Wednesday, September 24 from 1.30–3.30pm.

The venue said: “Feel free to bring your lunch. There is no set format for the afternoon; all you need to do is turn up at some point and be prepared to chat to other artists and arts workers.

“All we ask is that you have a conversation with at least one person who is new to you, or whose work you do not know.

“Everyone is welcome and if you need to bring children with you, they are welcome; just make sure to book a ticket for them, too.”

Cathedral altar servers’ outing

On Sunday August 31, the altar servers who serve at the Cathedral of St Mary and St Anne went on their annual outing, accompanied by Bishop Fintan Gavin, Fr Sean Crowley, and a number of volunteers from the Cathedral Family of Parishes.

After the 11.30am Mass at the Cathedral the group travelled to Watergrasshill where they enjoyed go-karting and archery.

The group then gathered at the Church of the Immaculate Conception to pray Vespers together.

Bishop Fintan spoke of his own time as an altar server in Dublin and how the formation he received helped him to discern his calling to the priesthood.

The gathering concluded with food and refreshments in the parish hall in Watergrasshill.

Bishop Fintan extended his thanks to the altar servers as well as their parents, to Fr Sean Crowley for organising the outing, and to Fr Christy Fitzgerald of Watergrasshill Parish, along with the efforts of the volunteers.

Delanys GAA introduce parent fitness while children train

Delanys GAA club has come up with an innovative way to keep parents occupied while their children train.

A club spokesperson said: “Delanys GAA are delighted to bring a new addition to the club. Every Tuesday and Thursday when the girls and boys train, the parents can also train. Over the years, we noticed a lot of parents sitting in their cars or just standing around so now we have fitness classes at the same time. The ladies only class is at 18.30pm and the men’s class is on at 19.30pm. Numbers are increasing every week and everyone is really enjoying it. For more information call 086 8243300.”
