Secondary schools announce dates for their upcoming open evenings

A number of secondary schools in the greater Douglas area will be holding their opening evening events in the coming weeks for prospective students for next year or the following years.

St Francis College said they are “delighted to welcome all prospective parents/guardians and students to our information evening on Thursday next, September 18”.

“We will have two separate times for this event: 3.30pm to 5pm (principal’s address at 4.30pm), and 6pm to 7.30pm (principal’s address at 7pm).

“Pre-registration for our information evening is required so that we can send you an invitation for the event together with your chosen time of principal’s address.” You can register at: https://www.stfranciscollege.ie/information-evening-2025-registration Meanwhile Douglas Community School will host their opening evening on Thursday, September 25, from 6.30pm to 9pm, with the principal’s address at 8pm.

All are welcome and further information can be found at: www.dcscork.ie Regina Mundi College will also host their open evening on Thursday, September 25, from 5pm to 7.30pm, with their principal’s address at 6.30pm.

The school said: “We warmly invite you to experience the spirit of Regina Mundi for yourself at our open. Meet our staff and students, explore our facilities, and discover why Regina Mundi College continues to inspire young women for the future.” 

Christ King Girls’ Secondary School will hold their open evening on Wednesday, September 24, from 4pm to 7pm, with principal’s address at 5pm and also 6.30opm.

The school said: “You and your daughter are most welcome, come and visit us, see our school and meet our exceptional students and staff.” 

Coláiste Chríost Rí will have their in-school open evening on Wednesday next, September 17, at 6pm.

The school said: “Our principal, Pádraig Mac An Rí; deputy principal, Liam Shorten, and assistant principal, Deborah Hennessy, together with members of the teaching and support teams will provide an overview of all that Coláiste Chríost Rí has to offer in supporting students to realise their individual potential.

“They will be joined by representatives of the board of management and members of the student body in outlining their first-hand experience of the school, its ethos and its focus on inspiring young minds.” Registration link is at: https://ccrcork.com/open-evening-registration-form/

Elevate Credit Union on their marks for annual 5k run

Elevate Credit Union, headquartered at Douglas West Village, have announced details of their annual 5k charity run.

In a statement they said: “We’re delighted to announce the return of our charity 5km, now in its sixth year.

“Join us for a fun-filled family day out while supporting two fantastic local causes: Meals on Wheels and the Irish Kidney Association (Munster Branch).”

The charity run will take place on Sunday, October 5, at the Tramore Valley Park at 11am.

The entry fee is €12 for adults and €6 for Under 16s.

There will be prizes for the top three male and female finishers and special awards for the first boy and girl U16.

There will also be goody bags for all participants.

This is a chip-timed race (courtesy of popupraces.ie) and covers two loops of a smooth, tarmac-surfaced 2.5km route.

Elevate Credit Union also have branches at Glanmire, Passage West and Grange, with some branches also open on Saturday mornings as well as week days.

Kindling for sale

The Douglas/Frankfield Men’s Shed are busy preparing for the winter nights.

With that in mind they have large bags of kindling for sale to help those that like to light a fire as the summer comes to a close.

The large bags cost €6 each or two for €10. All funds go towards the running costs of their shed, The Eircode is T12 XE20 and they are there on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings from 10am to 1pm.

Fashion event at Douglas Village Shopping centre

Douglas Village Shopping Centre will host a fashion show on Thursday, October 9, at 7pm, in aid of Cork ARC Cancer Support House and Breast Cancer Ireland. Tickets at €35 are on Eventbrite.
