Man (63) appears in Cork court charged with seven historical sexual offences

There detective said the was no objection to bail on condition that there would be no contact with the injured party directly or indirectly and that he would inform gardaí of any change of address.
A 63 year-old man was arrested today in Dublin and brought before Cork District Court charged with raping a boy in Cork approximately 30 years ago.
Detective Garda June O’Shea formally arrested the accused in Dublin today, and brought him before Cork District Court on seven historical charges. One count is of raping a boy some time between 1994 and 1997 and six counts of sexually assaulting him between the years 1990 and 1997 when he was aged between 7 and 14.
The detective gave him a copy of the charges and cautioned him that he did not have to say anything but that anything he would say would be taken down and given in evidence. He made no reply.
The alleged circumstances were of sexual offences against the child at various locations in Cork city during that time, Det. Garda O’Shea said at an in camera hearing where the parties cannot be identified.

He is presently residing at an address in Dublin.
Judge Mary Dorgan said that in light of the rape charge she would require additional conditions, including that he would sign at his local garda station two days a week, provide a phone number to gardaí and be contactable at all times and would not leave the jurisdiction without permission of the court.
Carmel Goggin barrister represented the accused on free legal aid. His income is limited to a disability payment.
Sergeant Gearóid Davis said the Director of Public Prosecutions directed trial by indictment at the Central Criminal Court or signing a guilty plea at the district court for sentencing in the Central Criminal Court.
The case was adjourned until October 20.
