IndieCork, a BAFTA-accredited festival and one of Ireland’s largest independent film festivals has launched its 2025 event.

As well as screening a broad array of Irish features, documentaries, and short films, this year’s programme will also show several international films from countries such as Ukraine, France, Scotland, Mexico, Argentina, and South Korea.

It opens with French film Ange, which premiered at Cannes last May. Directed by Tony Gatlif, it tells the story of footloose Romani musician Ange, who embarks on a life-affirming journey of self-discovery. Other highlights of the features programme include award-winning films White Snail and Perla.

IndieCork will again this year showcase the talent of independent filmmakers from Cork and across the island of Ireland.

Highlights

Some highlights include Low, the first feature-length film from Cork filmmakers Owen Warren and Felix Castaldo, both of whom are previous IndieCork winners in the Best Cork Short category.

The Irish language documentary Buried Alive explores the 1970s phenomenon of world-record attempts to stay buried in coffins, with the central character a Mitchelstown ex-pat in London.

Among the documentaries to feature in the festival is new Irish film Immrám, directed by Cork film-maker Michael Holly, which will have its homecoming screening at IndieCork.

Last year, IndieCork lost founding member, Tony Langlois. This year, to mark his contribution in creating and sustaining the festival, and his nurturing of the music and film communities of Cork, a number of elements of the programme will honour him.

A special programme of his films will screen at The Arc Cinema, including his 12 years of festival trailers, for which he composed the soundtracks.

  • IndieCork festival runs from Sunday, October 5 to Sunday, October 12, at the Arc Cinema in Cork. For details see https://indiecork.com.
