A district judge said that carrying a knife in Cork city was a serious matter and she imposed a two-month prison sentence on a young man for the offence.

Cian O’Leary of 30 Churchfield Terrace East, Cork, has already served the past 12 months in custody and is not due out on that sentence until January 31 2026.

The two months will run concurrently with that.

Frank Buttimer solicitor said the young man was doing very well and attending to his issues while in prison.

“Compared to how he was I did not recognise him,” Mr Buttimer said.
