A report shows that while there has been a national increase in new addresses and homes under construction in the year to June 2025, Cork has recorded a decline in both over the same 12-month period.
The GeoDirectory Residential Buildings Report, which is available to view at www.geodirectory.ie, was established jointly by An Post and Ordnance Survey Ireland to create and manage the country’s only database of residential buildings.
Its latest report shows a 7% decrease in new addresses in Cork in the year to June 2025, while there was a 4% drop in homes under construction in the same 12-month period.
Some 3,363 new residential address points were recorded in Cork over the past 12 months, compared to 3,621 in the 12-month period to June 2024.
Also, a further 2,876 homes were under construction, compared to 2,985 in the year to June 2024.
Nationally, a total of 33,002 new residential address points were added to the GeoDirectory database, representing a 5.2% increase year-on-year.
The report, prepared by consultants EY, found that the total number of buildings under construction nationally in June 2025 was up 9.2%, or by 2,018 buildings, compared to June 2024.
The Greater Dublin area accounted for just over half of all new address points (53.2%), while Dublin itself accounted for 12,762 (38.7%) of new addresses added in the year to June 2025.
These figures are followed by Cork (3,363), Meath (1,830), and Kildare (1,747).
Counties in Leinster accounted for over two-thirds (68.3%) of the new address points.
Of the 23,869 residential buildings under construction last month, 16.7% were located in Dublin, at 3,979 buildings.
This is closely followed by Cork with 2,876 buildings.
