McCarthy Glas archive

The long-lost archive of writer and historian Daniel MacCarthy Glas (1807- 1884) is now on show at the Cork City and County Archives, Blackpool.

The archive was donated by his descendants Susan MacCarthy and Don MacCarthy, and families, of Oregon, USA. The exhibition will tour libraries and other locations around Cork city and county at a later date.

The MacCarthy Glas archive has been painstakingly listed, arranged and catalogued in detail by the archivists of the Cork City and County Archives Service. Thanks to this, and the efforts of historians, and the kind generosity of Susan and Don MacCarthy and families, the archive is now a permanent public and historical research resource. In the coming years parts of the archive shall also be digitised and placed online.

Graffiti seek administration lead

Graffiti Theatre is hiring an operations and administration lead.

The venue said: “We’re looking for an experienced, organised, and proactive operations & administration lead (part-time) to help keep our creative home running smoothly at Graffiti.

“Reporting to Niall, our artistic director/CEO and Lynn our deputy director, this new, part-time role (28hrs per week) is central to keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes —think finance operations, HR compliance, governance, and general day-to-day coordination.

“We’re especially keen to hear from people with previous experience in similar roles, strong financial admin skills, and a knack for juggling systems, deadlines, and details.

“If you’re someone who thrives in a busy, supportive, creative environment; and if you have a background in the arts or cultural sector, we’d love to hear from you.” Applications close on Friday September 19 at 6pm.

Arts Theatre tribute to Feehily

Cork Arts Theatre paid tribute to a departing colleague who has made a valuable contribution to its success for more than a decade.

The venue said: “Our esteemed colleague and technical manager, Jamie Feehily, will be leaving us soon to start a new adventure across the Atlantic. While we are sad to see him go, we wish him every success and happiness in this new chapter in his life.

“Jamie has been an integral part of the Cork Arts Theatre for the last 13 years and has made a huge contribution to the development of the venue in that time. He has consistently gone above and beyond to ensure the smooth running of the theatre, and personally oversaw the upgrading of every aspect of our technical equipment to the current high standard.

As a talented lighting designer, Jamie has worked with countless productions at the CAT and approached every show, large or small, with the professionalism and support that is his trademark. A man of many talents, he has also directed some very fine productions at the venue over the years to much acclaim.

“Jamie also served as a Board Member of the CAT for many years and his input and guidance at this senior level has been invaluable. He will be missed greatly. We know many of you worked with Jamie over the years so feel free to comment and leave your own tribute here if you would like to join us in wishing Jamie, ‘Thank You and Bon Voyage!’.”
