Teenager charged with murder of Cork Kent Station worker 

A teenager has been charged with the murder of Irish Rail worker Ian Walsh in his Tipperary home.

Nathan Hanlon, aged 19, was charged with Mr Walsh’s murder at 62 Ravenswood Estate on Cregg Rd, Carrick-on-Suir.

Mr Walsh, 49, was found dead at his home on Cregg Rd, on August 4.

Sergeant Denis Ryan told a special sitting of Clonmel District Court that Mr Hanlon was arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday at 1 Castle View, Ballyneale.

Mr Hanlon made no reply after caution, Sgt Ryan said, and he was handed a true copy of the charge sheet after his arrest.

Mr Hanlon, of 1 Castle View, Ballyneale, Carrick-an-Suir, was remanded in custody by Judge Miriam Walsh.

He will next appear before Clonmel District court on August 26.

His solicitor, John M Joy, asked that his client appear in person, rather than via video link, on that date.

Mr Joy requested a psychological assessment for the accused.

He also requested legal aid.

No bail application could be made in the district court on a murder charge.

The defendant, who appeared yesterday before Clonmel District Court, wore a black top, black trousers, and black trainers. His dark hair was neatly cropped.
