Two men have been arrested following the seizure of multiple firearms and ammunition in Cork.

While on patrol on Wednesday, Gardaí from Charleville Garda Station stopped a car at a service station in Charleville at approximately 11pm.

During a search of the vehicle, Gardaí found three firearms and ammunition.

Approximately €800 worth of suspected diamorphine was also seized from the occupants of the vehicle, who were both men, aged in their 30s and 40s respectively.

The men were subsequently arrested and conveyed to a Garda Station in county Cork, where they are currently being detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.

Following the seizure, a number of additional searches were executed on Thursday at domestic residences in Cork, resulting in the seizure of further ammunition.

All firearms seized from this incident will be subject to further ballistic testing and forensic analysis.

All drugs seized will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána has confirmed that investigations into this incident are ongoing.
