Eibhlin Gleeson, CEO of Cork Opera House, has announced that a new production of The Sound of Music will be shown at Cork Opera House next summer.

A new production of musical theatre classic, The Sound of Music, is coming to the Cork Opera House stage next summer.

The revival, according to organisers, promises to transport audiences to the picturesque hills of the Austrian Alps, with a heartfelt production of one of the most cherished musicals of all time.

The Sound of Music will be brought to life from July 23, 2026, with detailed sets and vibrant costumes, following the journey of Maria, the spirited governess whose love of music transforms the lives of the von Trapp family.

The production will feature the evergreen musicals’ classic songs by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, such as My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, Climb Every Mountain, and the titular The Sound of Music.

Eibhlín Gleeson, who is the CEO of Cork Opera House, and Davey Kelleher, who is the director of the new production, said that it will be an unmissable experience for the whole family.

“Securing the rights for this nostalgic title in our 170th anniversary year has created such a sense of serendipity for the team here at Cork Opera House,” said Ms Gleeson. “ The Sound of Music started a new wave of in-house musical theatre productions for us when we produced it in 2012.

“It set the scene for what was possible for Irish stages. We’re delighted that 12 years later, we are returning to this iconic classic,” she added.

“Through our decade of experience and expertise, we are excited to assemble a phenomenal cast and creative team of local Cork and national talent, to deliver a production that will be both a nostalgic treat for long-time fans and a magical introduction for a new generation.”

Tickets for the production, priced from €37.50, will go on sale from August 21 from the Cork Opera House Box Office and online at www.corkoperahouse.ie

Early Bird tickets for preview shows are on sale now from €30.
