Thunderstorms are on the way for Cork, as a status yellow thunderstorm warning is now in place for the county, as well as Kerry and Limerick. Picture Denis Minihane.

2pm:

Well over 1,000 homes and businesses in the Macroom area are without power this afternoon, as Cork remains under a status yellow thunderstorm warning.

1,181 customers are without power at one location, with further smaller outages reported across the area affecting hundreds more.

The estimated time for power to be restored in this area is 2.30pm.

Further outages have been reported in the Millstreet, Clonakilty, Ballinspittle and Timoleague areas, affecting dozens of homes and businesses in each location.

Thunderstorms are on the way for Cork, as a status yellow thunderstorm warning is now in place for the county, as well as Kerry and Limerick.

Met Éireann has warned of the potential for lightening damage, power outages and localised flooding, alongside difficult travelling conditions.

The warning is in place until 6pm this evening.

Met Éireann said the weather in Munster today will bring a few sunny spells. 

Overall though, there will be a good deal of cloud with some showers. The showers will merge into longer spells of rain for a time with some heavy falls and thunderstorms likely, especially over the south and southwest. 

Highest temperatures of 19 to 21 degrees.
