Minister confirms expanded bus service for Cork school

“It is a great story in terms of parents, politicians and Bus Éireann working together and coming up with a solution,” the principal said.

Cork North West TD and Minister for Special Education and Inclusion, Micheal Moynihan, has confirmed details of an expanded school bus service for students attending Boherbue Comprehensive School.

Mr Moynihan, whose remit includes school transport in the Department of Education and Youth, has been engaging with officials in Bus Éireann to expand existing school bus services for students in the surrounding areas attending the school.

Speaking to The Echo principal of Boherbue Comprehensive School, Vera Leader, welcomed the announcement of an expanded school bus service.

“If you come from a rural area, you do need to have the transport and bus services.

“It is a great story in terms of parents, politicians and Bus Éireann working together and coming up with a solution,” she said.

Mr Moynihan said that he understood how important the school bus is for families in the local area.

“Following engagement with officials in the Department of Education and Bus Éireann, I can now confirm that an expanded service is being sanctioned, which I hope will be very welcome news for families across Boherbue, Newmarket and Meelin, areas that need access to the school bus."

“Officials in my department have confirmed that Bus Éireann have now commenced tendering for the larger bus, and tickets will then issue to families shortly after.”

Mr Moynihan said the news comes shortly after new routes were sanctioned for children attending both Rockchapel National School, and from Ballyhea attending Coláiste Pobail Naomh Mhuire in Buttevant.

“It’s great to see such expansion of the school bus service, which is an ambition of mine over the years ahead as the minister responsible.”
