Man in Cork court on public order offence after allegedly putting woman in fear on bus
The court previously heard that on January 21st last, gardaí were called to a bus in Cork as Mr Shinnick was allegedly waving his hand in front of a woman and walking up and down the gangway.
A man charged with public order offences who allegedly acted erratically on a bus walking up the aisle and making a female passenger fearful has been further remanded in custody.
Thomas Shinnick (29) previously of Centenary House, Charleville, appeared by video link at Mallow District Court in Co Cork today.
His appearance in court follows two public order incidents which allegedly occurred when he was on public transport.
The court previously heard that on January 21st last, gardaí were called to a bus in Cork as Mr Shinnick was allegedly waving his hand in front of a woman and walking up and down the gangway.
Gardai indicated that upon their arrival at the scene Mr Shinnick refused to leave the bus and started “shouting and roaring.”
He was arrested at that point.
In February of this year gardaí were again called to a Bus Éireann vehicle as Mr Shinnick was allegedly attempting to board a bus in spite of being barred due to the previous incident.
Today, at Mallow District Court Sgt Majella O’Sullivan said that they were seeking a further remand in the case until next month.
Mr Shinnick consented to the remand.
Judge Treasa Kelly remanded Mr Shinnick in custody to appear before the court on September 2nd next for an up-to-date probation report and finalisation of the case.
Mr Shinnick’s case had been adjourned due to an uncertainty about the ability of the accused to be under the care of the probation services.
The probation services cited “health and safety concerns” in relation to having Mr Shinnick under their supervision.
Judge Colm Roberts previously said that he was very concerned about Mr Shinnick.
"I’m concerned about his ability to empathise, and his capacity to freak people out and frighten people," he said.
