Motorists are advised that disruptions in the area because of extensive resurfacing works — requiring night-time closures of the Kinsale Rd roundabout— began yesterday and will continue until the end of the month.

The phased closures, running from 20:30pm to 05:30am each night and morning, will affect multiple access points to one of the city’s busiest junctions until Friday, August 29.

The works will be carried out by Egis Lagan, on behalf of Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), in two overlapping phases to resurface the roundabout and its approach roads. Phase one began last night, August 5, and continues until Friday, August 15, with major restrictions affecting eastbound N40 traffic and several roundabout exits.

Locals are advised that during the initial phase, the eastbound N40 slip road onto the roundabout will be completely closed. Motorists travelling from the west will need to exit at Togher and follow a diversion route via Tramore Rd.

The Kinsale Rd (L2548) and N27 South Link Rd exits from the roundabout will also be closed, along with access from Kinsale Rd onto the roundabout.

Westbound N40 traffic will maintain access to the roundabout, but will be unable to travel straight through. Instead, they’ll be directed to either Frankfield Rd or the N27 Kinsale Rd, where alternative routes will be signposted.

The second phase begins on Thursday, August 14 and extends until the end of the month, focusing on the southern sections of the junction and will see closures of the westbound N40 slip road, Frankfield Rd access and exit lanes, and the N27 Kinsale Rd exit lane.

The works programme includes milling, pavement laying, new road markings, ironworks maintenance, and recutting of traffic signal loops.

Diversion routes will be in place throughout both phases to accommodate traffic from all directions.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times during the works, ensuring local residents and businesses remain accessible on foot. The contractor has scheduled the works during night-time hours to minimise disruption to the heavy daytime traffic that uses this critical junction.

Cork Airport has advised that anyone who is travelling to the airport for late-night flights should please allow additional time for your journey.

Gardaí appeal for help

Gardaí are asking for anyone with information in regard to the ongoing vandalism of Taoiseach Micheál Martin’s constituency office on Evergreen Road to come forward.

Gardaí say they are keen to speak with anyone who was in the Turner’s Cross area between 12.30am and 1am on Thursday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigating gardaí at Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021 4522000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
