Cork City Council, in partnership with Galtymore Homes, has announced the launch of a new Affordable Housing Scheme, at Carraig Dún, Killeen’s.
Cork City Council has announced the launch of nine new affordable homes less than 6km from the city centre.
The local authority, in partnership with Galtymore Homes, has launched the homes under the affordable housing scheme at Carraig Dún in Killeens.
The homes are available for sale from €320,000, representing about 20% below open-market values to those who qualify for the scheme.
The homes will be available to first-time buyers who do not have an interest in any other property, although exceptions may apply for “fresh start” applicants.
Income limits apply and potential applicants are advised to familiarise themselves with the qualification criteria by visiting www.carraigdun.ie.
Under the terms of the scheme, purchasers will enter an affordable dwelling purchase agreement with the local authority, which will see the council retain a percentage equity share in the house.
This new development of semi-detached homes is the 10th offering under the scheme, bringing the total number of homes offered under the initiative to 403 properties to date.
The Lord Mayor of Cork, Fianna Fáil councillor Fergal Dennehy said the new homes come as efforts are being made “to meet the housing needs of our growing city”.
“As the 10th scheme launched under our affordable housing initiative, this project is a clear demonstration of the council’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, affordable homes for the people of Cork,” said Mr Dennehy.
“Cork City Council has exceeded its housing targets for the 2022–2024 period, and it is developments like this that are helping to keep us firmly on that upward trajectory.
“We very much rely on our collaboration with all stakeholders to provide a range of housing options and this scheme is a testament to that,” he added. “I look forward to seeing many more schemes like this in the future.”
Brian Geaney, deputy chief executive at Cork City Council, said the new development marks a “significant milestone” in the delivery of homes across Cork.
“This is the third affordable housing scheme launched by Cork City Council in recent months,” he added.
Applications for the homes may be made from 12pm on August 6 until midnight on August 27 at www.carraigdun.ie.
