Cork TD urges public to learn about new pension scheme

Mr O’Shea said that the multimedia advertising campaign on the auto-enrolment scheme, ‘My Future Fund’, will inform people about how the system works and who can participate.

A Cork TD has urged all workers and employers to get on board with a new pension information campaign, and educate themselves on the new auto-enrolment scheme which begins next year.

Cork North West Fine Gael deputy John Paul O’Shea said that a new public awareness campaign on the auto-enrolment retirement savings scheme will further copperfasten the start date of January 1, 2026.

Mr O’Shea said that the multimedia advertising campaign on the auto-enrolment scheme, ‘My Future Fund’, will inform people about how the system works and who can participate.

Mr O’Shea said it is important that the enrolment start date of January 1 happens, so workers have proper pension cover.

“The launch of the My Future Fund information campaign informs employers and employees about how the scheme will work and what needs to be in place in advance of the scheme starting,”

he said.

Mr O’Shea added that he urges all workers and employers to get on board with the information campaign, and to educate themselves on what needs to be in place for just over five months’ time, when auto-enrolment starts.

“The delivery of My Future Fund will be transformational for this country.

“Ireland is the only country in the OECD that does not have an auto-enrolment scheme in place. We know that pension coverage is too low in this country.

“Recent figures have shown that it is as low as 35% in the private sector.

“My Future Fund will see employers match the amounts saved by their employees. The State will then top up each participant’s savings pot by €1 for every €3 they contribute.”
