Gardaí carry out forensic examinations following violent incident linked to feud
Gardaí have carried out technical examinations after violent scenes at Onslow Gardens in Cork n Thursday evening.
Specialist gardaí have carried out forensic examinations at the scene of a violent incident in which a group of men armed with bars, bats and slash hooks damaged a house and several parked cars on Thursday evening in the northside of Cork city.
The incident occurred around 9.45pm at Onslow Gardens and is understood to have been the result of an escalation in a feud between two families.
Gardaí said they received a report of an incident of criminal damage in the area at around 9.45pm on Thursday.
Videos of the incident, which have circulated on social media, show several masked men damaging cars and using weapons to attack a house.
A garda spokesperson told that “a domestic residence and a number of vehicles have been reported as damaged”.
They added: “Technical examinations have been conducted by the Scenes of Crime Unit and investigations are ongoing”.
Ken O’Flynn, Independent Ireland TD for Cork North Central, said the incident had involved to “serious public disorder, destruction of property, and the terrorising of an otherwise peaceful neighbourhood”.
“Innocent residents - men, women, and children - were caught in the middle of this madness. This kind of violence has no place on our streets. It is both deeply disappointing and profoundly disturbing to witness such lawlessness take root in Cork’s northside,” Mr O’Flynn said.
He asked all involved to show restraint, “before someone is seriously injured or killed”.
“I urge those engaged in this feud to take a step back and consider the devastation they are bringing not only upon each other but upon the wider community,” he said.
