Appeal for customers in popular West Cork tourist town to conserve water
The appeal comes as levels in many water sources are significantly lower than normal for this time of year.
Uisce Éireann are appealing to customers in the popular tourist town of Clonakilty to conserve water with nighttime restrictions being introduced.
Since Tuesday night restrictions have been in place for customers in the Inchinattin, Carrigfadda and Tullig areas, from 10pm each night to 7am the following morning, in an attempt to reduce usage and maintain daytime supply.
Uisce Éireann water operations manager Niall O’Riordan, said: “In the days and weeks ahead, we would appeal to customers to take the opportunity to really consider their water usage and reflect on the daily and easy actions they can take to play their part in ensuring our water resources are used wisely and in a way which benefits, not only your own household but also the wider community.”
The appeal comes as levels in many water sources are significantly lower than normal for this time of year.
An increase in demand has put further pressure on the network and Reenascreena Reservoir.
Uisce Éireann has developed a conservation calculator to help people find out how much water they are saving and what they can do to save even more. Check it out at water.ie/calculator
