Cork city cafe bar shuts its doors

The former An Sibín manager is to join the team in the newly-refurbished Clancy's.

Old-fashioned cafe bar An Sibín at 24 Princes St in Cork city has closed after three years.

The bar, which opened in 2022, was decorated with lots of old Irish memorabilia and was owned by the Clancy’s group, which also owns Clancy’s, JJ Walsh’s, and Conway’s Yard.

It comes as Clancy’s closed its doors for renovations earlier this week, and announced they will reopen on Friday revamped with a €500,000 investment, creating 15 new jobs — the former An Sibín manager is to join the team there.

Clancy’s will have four new experiences under one roof — Arthur’s Bar @ Clancy’s, offering an immersive Guinness experience; 1824 @ Clancy’s, a new first-floor restaurant serving contemporary Irish food; a premium cocktail lab; and a rooftop party bar, the Sky Bar.

A sign on the door of An Sibín reads: “Sorry, An Sibín is now closed. Thank you to everyone who made our time here very special.”

They added: “If you wish to keep in contact or follow the journey of your favourite bartenders see below. Our bar queen Saoirse will continue playing music in various venues. Instagram: @musicalsmurf.

“Our bar manager Seán will move down to Clancy’s to be part of the team in the new Arthurs Bar Guinness Experience on Marlboro Street. Instagram: @sean.merchperch."
