A Garda spokesperson said the body of the man was discovered in Ballymaquirk, which is located between Kanturk and the main Killarney to Mallow road, the N72, on Saturday last, June 28.

The body of a man in his 50s that was discovered near the main road in Ballymaquirk in North Cork may have been there for two weeks before its discovery on Saturday, gardaí have said.

The Garda Press Office issued an appeal for information yesterday in which they released some details relating to the discovery.

A Garda spokesperson said the body of the man was discovered in Ballymaquirk, which is located between Kanturk and the main Killarney to Mallow road, the N72, on Saturday last, June 28.

In this appeal for information, the spokesperson said that gardaí were seeking witnesses in relation to a male walking on the road between Banteer and Kanturk in Co Cork on Friday, June 13, between the hours of 3.30pm and 9pm.

It is understood, however, that gardaí are uncertain as to the length of time the body lay where it was discovered, as the results of a postmortem are not yet available.

Garda Shane Crowley of Mallow Garda Station, speaking on Patricia Messinger’s Cork Today show on C103FM, said that gardaí were appealing for anyone with information relating to this incident to come forward.

“Any road users who were travelling in this vicinity at the time, and who may have camera footage including dash cam, are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí,” he said.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Kanturk Garda Station on (029) 20680 or Mallow Garda Station on (022) 31450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
