Cork teenager who died in tragic Lough Doon fall is named
Darragh Byrne from Charleville who died following a fall at the Conor Pass in Co Kerry.
A teenager who was killed following a fall from a height while climbing near Daingean Uí Chúis on Tuesday has been named and was from Charleville in north Cork.
Darragh Byrne, aged 16, was on holidays with his parents in the area and is believed to have gone climbing to a lake known as Loch an Pheidléara (Lough Doon) and fell from a height. The accident is believed to have occurred at 3.30pm in the afternoon.
Mr Byrne was a student at Charleville CBS in the town.
Gardaí and Kerry Mountain Rescue were called to the scene and the rescue operation was co-ordinated by the Coast Guard’s Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Valentia who tasked the Shannon based Rescue 115 helicopter to the scene.
The body of the deceased was removed from the scene and brought to University Hospital Kerry in Tralee where a post mortem examination is to be carried out in the coming days.
In a statement from the Garda Press Office, it was confirmed that Gardaí and emergency services “attended a sudden death incident involving a male juvenile in An Chonair/Conor Pass, Co. Kerry yesterday afternoon, Tuesday July 1”.
