A Cork TD is hoping to create an open conversation with locals about the future of the Lough.
Social Democrats TD Padraig Rice is to host an event called Run My Rep to discuss ways in which to improve the much-loved amenity.
“The Lough is one of my favourite places in the whole world but I think it could be improved. I think we could show the Lough a bit more love,” he said.
“Over the last year Cllr Niamh O’Connor and I have been campaigning to have improvements made to the Lough, this included putting down motions at Cork City Council, raising issues with officials and we’ve seen some works done.

“We’ve seen improvements to the footpaths on the way towards the Lough and we’ve seen some of the benches painted but some of the bigger projects haven’t happened yet and we would like to see movement on those and this Saturday we are doing an event called Run My Rep where we are gonna gather at the Lough, we’re gonna talk about some things that we’d like to see improved including improvements to the playgrounds and installing toilets. We would love to hear ideas about how the Lough can be improved.”
The event will feature a lap of the Lough, either running or walking alongside the local representatives, where participants can share their concerns and ideas for the development of the area.
“It’s an opportunity for us to tell you a bit about the work we have been doing locally, sharing our ideas to make the Lough better and most importantly a chance for you to tell us what you would like to see,” Mr Rice said.
The event takes place on Saturday, July 5 at 10am.

The Change Café, the women’s menopause and women’s health initiative, is to host a CPR and defibrillator skills training event. The training will teach you how to recognise a cardiac arrest, performing chest compressions, including a hands-on CPR training as demonstrated by The Cork City Community First Responders.
The session will also train participants in AED (Automated External Defibrillator), as well as how to respond in a choking emergency and recognising a stroke.
The event will take place in Ballyphehane Community Centre on Tuesday July 8 at 7pm.
This talk is free, however participants are encouraged to register your interest with grainne@btcdp.ie.

A representative for the community group have said: “We are looking for land around Togher to continue with our Market Garden test site. In the meantime, we are settled into Rosehill community garden test site, it's such a beautiful space shared with other growers and businesses.
Sharing an update on the garden’s bounty, they said “We picked some kale and courgettes today and went to work on an old chicken house as our mini polytunnel.”
