The Hi-B bar in Cork had two famous customers in recent days in the form of Patrick Duffy and Happy Days actor Linda Purl.

Mr Duffy is famous for playing the role of Bobby Ewing on American soap Dallas. He also is known for featuring in the sci-fi series Man from Atlantis and in family sitcom Step by Step.

Ms Purl is best known for playing the role Ashley Pfister , Fonzie's girlfriend in the US sitcom Happy Days. She also starred on the drama series Matlock and in the horror film Visiting Hours.

Speaking to The Echo, Rachel O’Donnell owner of the Hi-B Bar said that the pair were visiting as part of filming for a documentary on family-run pubs in Ireland, which is scheduled to be aired at Christmas on RTÉ and also on a US television station.

“The two of them were an absolute pleasure to deal with. Very unassuming and very nice. They were lovely the two of them both Patrick and Linda.

“What they are doing is a road trip around Ireland. It is eight or nine family run pubs that they are interviewing with.

“Patrick Duffy comes from a pub background and he was brought up in a pub in Montana. His people are originally pub people from Sligo.

"They love coming to Ireland and have been here many times before. They are living in Los Angeles and they were just very nice down to earth people. They were an utter pleasure to deal with."

Mr Duffy has been keeping his followers up to date with his travels around Ireland on social media, including a post of himself and Ms Purl while they were on the Aran Islands.

Ms O’Donnell said she discovered on the day that Murphy’s is the preferred pint of Mr Duffy. She said Mr Duffy also told her about his son who currently owns a pub in Los Angeles.

“It is also I believe a music venue. So there would be numerous arts and music events there."

Located on 108 Oliver Plunkett, Ms O'Donnell and all at the Hi-B bar are eagerly awaiting the release of the documentary towards the end of this year.
