The East Village has got a new look and a new name for its reopening this summer.

A well-known Cork establishment has been reimagined and is set to reopen under new management this summer.

The Douglas restaurant and late-night bar The East Village announced its temporary closure in January following two decades of trading.

The long-standing Douglas-based business, which is located adjacent to the McDonald’s chain drive-thru, announced via a social media post that the venue would be closing after 20 years of business. And now, under new ownership, the popular bar will reopen this summer with the new name The Village Rooms, Bar and Kitchen.

Taking to social media, the new owners said: “The Village Rooms, Bar and Kitchen will bring a multi-use venue with sophistication. Reimagining the previous East Village under new ownership.”

“The venue is currently under complete remodelling and opens mid-July,” they added, confirming that the building will have all-new interiors, food, drinks, live music, and event spaces.

“We’re so excited to share all our progress – keep an eye out for our official opening party," they posted.
