Man arrested after several vehicles set alight in Cork Airport Business Park

A man in his early 30s was arrested after several cars were set alight at Cork Airport Business Park in the early hours of this morning.

A man has been arrested in Cork city following a fire in the early hours of this morning.

The incident, which saw two trucks and a mini-bus set alight, occurred at Cork Airport Business Park at approximately 1.15am.

Gardaí, four units from the Cork City Fire Brigade and members of the Cork Airport Fire Service attended the scene, where the blaze was "quickly” extinguished.

Speaking to The Echo, second officer with Cork City Fire Brigade, Victor Shine said that no structural damage was caused to any surrounding buildings as a result of the fire.

“It was brought under control quickly and dealt with – there was no structural damage to any of the property there, it was purely contained to the vehicles,” he said.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told The Echo that following the act of criminal damage, a man, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene.

The man is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

An investigation into the incident is now underway.
