Planning permission has been granted for seven council homes in rural North Cork.
The development will be in Knocknagree village, and comes as part of Cork County Council’s broader housing programme.
The new homes, which will be built to complement the village infrastructure, will consist of one three-bed house, two two-bed houses, and four one-bed houses.
Fine Gael Cork North West TD John Paul O’Shea said that the approval of the development marks a milestone in addressing the housing needs of rural Cork communities.
“This is fantastic news for Knocknagree and the surrounding area,” said Mr O’Shea.
“These seven new council houses represent more than just bricks and mortar — they represent hope, opportunity, and a future for families who want to put down roots in this beautiful part of North Cork.
“Having served on Cork County Council for 15 years before my election to the Dáil, I understand the challenges faced by rural communities in accessing housing.
“This housing project demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that people can live and thrive in the communities near them.”
Mr O’Shea further highlighted the importance of supporting rural settlements like Knocknagree, which has seen a number of successful local development initiatives in recent years.
“Knocknagree is a community that has consistently shown its determination to thrive and grow,” he said.
“The local community development group and residents have worked tirelessly to enhance village amenities and attract new families to the area.
“These new council houses will build on that positive momentum,” he added.
Construction of the homes is expected to commence over the coming months, with the first families anticipated to move in during 2026.
