Ovens-based charity the Crann Centre, which supports children, adults, and their families living with neuro-physical disabilities, has launched its fifth annual ‘Walk n’Roll’ fundraiser, which is set to take place next month.

Over the past four years Walk n’Roll has raised more than €110,000.

The charity is asking the public to help them reach this year’s target of €50,000 by doing 5k their own way, and in their own place, between Thursday, June 12, and Sunday, June 15. On Saturday, June 14, the Crann Centre will open its gates in Ovens to welcome client families to walk, roll, push, or pedal their final 1km.

The Crann Centre provides lifelong, life-changing solutions for children, adults, and families living with neuro-physical disabilities through its ‘2 Generation’ model of care.

It supports people living with spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, osteogenesis imperfecta, stroke, and other neuro-physical disabilities.

The Crann Centre’s team of experts include nurses, occupational therapists, counsellors, dieticians and play therapists.

It offers wraparound care programmes with personalised plans for every member of the family.

The centre is home to Ireland’s first fully accessible playground and leisure area, an accessible co-working space for entrepreneurs and professionals with disabilities, and a wheelchair accessible conservation area and nature trail.

The charity supports more than 700 families from Cork, Kerry, and across Munster.

Cork City FC striker Ruairí Keating has been confirmed as this year’s ambassador. He said he has seen first-hand the work that is carried out by the team at the Crann Centre.

“They are continuing to provide vital support to hundreds of families from Cork and across the Munster region,” he said.

“People can get together with friends or colleagues on their lunch break and go for a 5k run, walk, or cycle and help raise funds for this incredible charity.”

Cork City FC will hold a bucket collection for Walk n’Roll at Turner’s Cross when they host Bohemians on Friday, June 13.

Refuge walk-in clinic

From Thursday, an outreach worker from Cuanlee Refuge will hold a monthly walk-in clinic in the Ballincollig Family Resource Centre.

The refuge provides safe crisis accommodation for women and children experiencing domestic abuse and helps women who wish to live independently.

Its professional staff support women and children during their stay. A non-judgmental, open and welcoming service is available.

The walk-in clinic will offer emotional support and directions to the relevant services to anyone dealing with domestic violence, or emotional, physical, economic, sexual, or psychological abuse.

It will take place on the last Thursday of every month, from 10am to 1pm. Contact info@cuanleerefuge.org or 087 385 9743 for more information.

Oriel rebranded as Talbot Hotel

Oriel House Hotel in Ballincollig has been rebranded as the Talbot Hotel Cork.

It follows an investment of more than €500,000 in 2024, part of a broader €1.15m refurbishment initiative over recent years.

Bedroom refurbishments and lobby enhancements are completed, while upgrades are underway to the Talbot Fitness, Ballincollig.

The hotel’s general manager, Janice McConnell, said the rebrand was a testament to the strength and growth of the Talbot Collection.

“By aligning our Cork property under the Talbot name, we are reinforcing our dedication to delivering exceptional food and service by our committed team and creating unforgettable experiences and lifelong memories,” she said.

“Our talented team will continue to be at the heart of these efforts, ensuring every guest enjoys the very best of what we have to offer.”

The new refurbishment works include the installation of electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

The hotel has also said it is “actively planning” for solar panel installation as part of its ongoing sustainability efforts.
