Gardaí are appealing for information after a man in his 20s was found unresponsive in the city centre in the early hours of this morning.

The injured man was taken to Cork University Hospital, after he was discovered on Winthrop Street shortly after midnight, where he remains in a serious condition.

The scene is currently preserved for technical examination, as gardaí appeal for anyone with any information or dashcam footage to come forward.

A garda spokesperson told The Echo: “Gardaí were alerted to an incident in which a male was discovered unresponsive on Winthrop Street in Cork city shortly before 12:30am in the early hours of Monday, 26th May 2025.

“The injured male, aged in his 20s, was transferred to Cork University Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

“The scene is currently preserved for technical examination by the Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit.” 

They added that investigating Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to please come forward, saying: “Any persons who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the surrounding area of Winthrop Street and Patrick Street between midnight 12:00am and 1:00am is asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021 452 2000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.” 

Investigations are ongoing.
