One person hospitalised following fire in Cork city hostel

One person has been hospitalised following a fire at an emergency accommodation in Cork city centre this evening.
Emergency services are currently at the scene of the incident at St Vincent’s Hostel on Anglesea Terrace, which was reported to personnel at approximately 6pm.
Three units from Cork City Fire Brigade, members of An Garda Síochána and the National Ambulance Service attended the scene.
Two people were taken from the building and treated for smoke inhalation.
Following assessment, one person has been transferred to hospital for observation, while the other remains at the scene for further treatment on-site.
Speaking to
Victor Shine, second officer with Cork City Fire Brigade, said that the fire, which is understood to have started in a bedroom of the facility, has since been extinguished and the premises ventilated.Mr Shine said that an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
The 74-bed facility, which is operated under the governance of the Society of St Vincent de Paul, is an emergency accommodation for homeless men aged from 20-years-old and above.
