The gaming convention GAMECON returns for a second year to Bantry Boys Club on Saturday, May 10, and Sunday, May 11, in aid of the West Cork Sudbury School.

Taking place from 10am to 6pm on both days, GAMECON is a celebration of gaming of all forms including video games, miniature games, chess, backgammon and board games.

Casual players can get a taste of new games, while dedicated players can flex their competitive muscles in the games that they love.

Demonstrations

The Toy Soldier Factory from Kilnamartyra will be part of GAMECON, with a spokesperson for the event saying people can join them for live demonstrations where they will cast fantasy figures in real metal, a five minute process using traditional rubber moulds and a tin based alloy.

“Then, grab a brush and paint your freshly made miniature to take home as a unique souvenir. Whether you are a tabletop gamer, collector or just curious, this hands on experience is perfect for all ages,” said the spokesperson.

Bantry Chess Club will be running open chess games on Saturday and will be hosting a chess tournament on Sunday.

Tickets for GAMECON 2025 are available online at www.eventbrite.ie and will also be on sale at the door priced at €15 adult and €10 student day tickets, with weekend tickets priced at €25 and €15, respectively.

GAMECON is free for children aged five and under. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

Proceeds

All proceeds will go to West Cork Sudbury School, an educational institution dedicated to fostering creativity and community among students. Guided by the principles of play-based and experiential learning, the school empowers children to steer their own education.

Traders, artists, volunteers and sponsors are invited to come on board by contacting the event organisers through email: info@gamecon.ie.
