Together for Hospice is calling on schools, pre-schools, Montessori schools, and creches from across Cork to host a Hospice Sunflower Fun Day this June.
Representing 24 hospice and palliative care providers nationwide, Together for Hospice supports these frontline services to fundraise at a national level.
As part of the Hospice Sunflower Fun Day, volunteers gather to raise funds for their local hospice.
More than 40 first-class pupils from Ballinora National School helped to launch this year’s Hospice Sunflower Fun Day.
They were joined by local businesswoman and dedicated hospice supporter, Maeve Dennehy, who is the owner of Love Cherish boutique.
Ms Dennehy said: “I am delighted to be involved in encouraging others to support Sunflower Day.
“Both my sister and my Mum were in palliative care in Marymount University Hospital and Hospice and they were treated with kindness, respect, and dignity by the amazing team there.
“My family will be for ever grateful for the time Marymount gave us with them.”
Enid Conway, fundraising and marketing manager at Marymount, said that Sunflower Fun Day is a day all in Marymount look forward to.
“Sunflower Fun Day brings a lot of fun and joy to Montessori schools, pre-schools, creches, and primary schools across Ireland. It is a day we all look forward to, with bright bursts of yellow and creativity.
“The funds raised are put to incredible use at Marymount.”
All money raised through Hospice Sunflower Fun Day locally stays local and in Cork all proceeds will support Marymount University Hospital and Hospice.
Every year, Marymount is required to raise €3m to support specialist palliative care services and to support services for dependent older people.
