Cork County Fire Service remain at the scene of a fire at a commercial recycling facility at Knockgriffin in Midleton.

Cork County Fire Service remain at the scene of a fire at a commercial recycling facility at Knockgriffin in Midleton.

Six appliances from Midleton and Cobh Fire Brigades attended the incident at the height of the fire and crews are continuing to monitor the scene, a council spokesperson said this afternoon. 

The fire was brought under control at approximately 4am and there are no reported injuries.

"Cork County Council is continuing to engage with An Garda Síochana, and the HSE and both the council and the HSE are satisfied that adequate mitigation measures are in place to manage any risks on site," the spokesperson said. 

Part of the Northern Relief Road was closed overnight but has now reopened.

Earlier: Emergency services attended the scene of a fire in a Cork town that happened just after midnight last night.

In a statement to The Echo, a garda spokesperson conformed that An Garda Síochána assisted fire services at a premises in Knockgriffin, Midleton, Co Cork.

No injuries were reported. 

The scene is preserved pending technical examination, gardaí added.

Cork County Fire Service was tasked to the fire at the recycling facility, and six appliances from Midleton and Cobh Fire Brigades attended the incident, four units from Midleton and two from Cobh.

The fire was brought under control at approximately 4am. 

As of 9am Cork County Fire Service remains on site, monitoring the scene.

Cork County Council is engaging with the HSE and will assess the site once it is safe to do so.

"Weather conditions will reduce the impacts of smoke in the vicinity with rainfall likely to continue throughout the day. The public is advised to stay away from the area and if there is any smoke in the vicinity of your home you should keep windows and doors closed as a precaution," a Cork County Council spokesperson said.

Part of the Northern Relief Road is currently closed with diversions in place.
