A man has been charged in relation to a fatal assault in Youghal on Monday.

The man, who died after an assault in Youghal, has been named locally as Daniel ‘Dano’ O’Sullivan, who had been jailed for manslaughter in 2016.

A post-mortem examination was carried out at Cork University Hospital (CUH) by Dr Margot Bolster on Tuesday.

Gardaí in Midleton commenced a murder investigation after receiving preliminary results.

A 29-year-old man, arrested on Monday night for questioning in connection with the death, remained in custody last night under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Midleton Garda Station.

He was charged this morning and is due to appear in court.

A Garda spokesperson said this morning: "Gardaí continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the death of a man following a fatal assault that occurred in Youghal, Co. Cork on Monday night, 14th April 2025.

"The male, in his 20s, arrested in connection with this investigation has since been charged.

"He is expected to appear before Midleton District Court this morning, Wednesday 16th April 2025, at 10:30am."
