An 18th-century castle, owned by the Disney family, has been put up for sale in Cork.

Coolmain Castle, which is positioned on a 56-acre estate, is in Kilbrittain and overlooks Courtmacsherry Bay.

The property, which has six receptions, nine bedrooms, and six bathrooms, is presented in a symmetrical, five-bay original Georgian house, augmented by a castellated tower and battlemented parapet walls.

The home, being sold under Lisney Sotheby International Realty, is accessed via a tree-lined avenue, from where a stone arch leads to an inner courtyard, and is priced at €7.5m.

Purchased in 1989 by Roy E Disney, nephew of Walt Disney and vice-chairman of the Walt Disney Company, Coolmain Castle has been comprehensively restored and maintained over the last 35 years.

Included in the sale is the original L-shaped stable yard, which has been carefully upgraded and features a self-contained, three-bedroom caretaker’s residence, three loose boxes, and overhead lofted storage.

This Ivy-clad stone-finish building, within private parkland, is available for purchase fully furnished, with garden tools and equipment included.

The property is also within easy reach of surrounding towns and amenities, including Kinsale, Ballinspittle, and the Old Head Golf Links resort.

Separately, The Pink Elephant restaurant, also in Kilbrittain, has been listed for sale and is being overseen by Savills.

The property, being advertised as a six-bedroom, four-bathroom and two-living-room home, has been operated as a restaurant since 1960.

The original Georgian period structure has been extended on the ground floor and is currently laid out as a bar/restaurant area.

The space is open plan and can be accessed via the original front door or through the glass- panelled double doors, which open onto a grass area overlooking Courtmacsherry Bay.

The cost of the property has been listed as “price on application”.
