Gardaí underwent a river rescue in Cork earlier this week during a routine walkabout.
In a post shared on social media, An Garda Síochána said that while Garda Darren Ronan and trainee Garda Caragh Byrne were on-the-beat on Thursday, they spotted a man “clearly in distress” in the River Lee.
Both Mr Ronan and Ms Byrne “immediately sprung to action” as Ms Byrne reported the emergency to colleagues via radio, before seeking support from emergency services, while Mr Ronan retrieved a nearby lifebuoy.
As Gardaí began to rescue the man, units from the Cork City Fire Brigade and the National Ambulance Service arrived on scene.
Through a multi-agency operation, the man was safely taken out of the water and received medical attention from on scene services.
The man is now recovering from the incident.
