Epilepsy Ireland is appealing to people in Cork to take part in its 24-Hour Squat Challenge to raise funds for its services.
The challenge has been launched to coincide with its biggest fundraising day of the year, Purple Day, on March 26.
Participants in the challenge are asked to complete at least 24 squats per day from March 24-28, in recognition of the estimated 5,600 people who live with epilepsy in Cork, 24 hours a day.
People of all fitness levels are welcome to take part in the challenge and participants can set their own target and do a sumo squat or chair squat to suit their ability.
Speaking about the new challenge for Purple Day, Epilepsy Ireland fundraising and development manager, Cian Dikker said the challenge is a fantastic opportunity for the public to show their support for those living with epilepsy.
“Every squat and every donation will help to continue the work of our community resource officer team across Ireland and ensure that Epilepsy Ireland can continue to invest in vital epilepsy research projects.
“Alongside this, every conversation about epilepsy sparked by this challenge helps to create a more informed and supportive society,” Mr Dikker said.
“We encourage everyone, whether you have a personal connection to epilepsy or simply want to support a great cause, to take part. The challenge is fun, inclusive, and a great way to get moving while making a difference,” he added.
The squat challenge site is now live and people can either sign up as an individual or get a group together and sign up as a team.

There are also other ways to get involved in Purple Day, such as hosting a community event at work, home or school or by making a donation to continue the work of Epilepsy Ireland.
