A total of €3.3m has been allocated to 48 community centres in Cork under the 2024 Community Centre Investment Fund for a variety of projects.

The funding will enable communities to make necessary changes to their centres, including roof and insulation enhancements, kitchen and toilet upgrades, or making buildings more accessible and energy efficient.

€100,000 was awarded to Macroom Family Resource Centre and Russell Rovers GAA as well as community centres in Ladysbridge, Brigown, Butlerstown, Conna, Dromanallig, Freemount, Glanworth and Rathcormac, while a further 38 centres were allocated amounts from €12,196 to €99,495.

“I want to thank the volunteers who work so hard to facilitate activities in our community centres,” Cork North Central Fine Gael TD Colm Burke said.

“Community centres play an essential role in bringing our communities together. Whether it’s local meetings, celebrations, or classes for children or retired people, our community centres in Cork have always been a central point in every town and village.”
