McDonald’s Restaurants of Ireland Ltd has lodged a planning application with Cork City Council seeking permission to modify and alter its existing restaurant location in Douglas.
It is proposed that the development would provide for modifications and upgrade works to the interior and exterior of the restaurant, along with improvements to the drive-thru lane and associated signage.
The plans seek to implement a new entrance lobby with a new sliding door and glazing, new internal doors and walls, extension works to provide for increased kitchen and dining areas, and new booth windows to replace those existing.
They are also seeking to install a new height restrictor, canopies and road markings in the drive-thru lane, as well as a new fast-forward booth and associated bay where customers can wait for their orders without causing congestion, and solar panels at roof level.
They are also seeking a partial re-configuration of the existing car park, new customer bins to replace those existing and improvements to the outdoor seating area to include the erection of umbrellas and lamps.
In a planning statement submitted alongside the application, on behalf of McDonald’s Restaurants of Ireland Ltd, Downey Chartered Town Planners said that as the existing facility has been serving the community of Douglas since the early 2000s and that the proposed works would “better align with modern operations” to allow the company to continue to provide improved food and beverage offerings to the area. Cork City Council is due to make a decision on the application by April 22.
