A 39-year-old man who confessed to hijacking a taxi in Rathpeacon a year ago was remanded in custody for sentencing in May.
Anthony Hornibrook of 71 Killala Gardens, Knocknaheeny, Cork, faced charges arising out of the incident on January 26 2024 at Monard, Rathpeacon, County Cork.
He was arraigned on several charges at Cork Circuit Criminal Court and pleaded guilty to all of them.
The hijacking incident was the most serious stating that by threat of force or intimidation he threatened the owner of the car that he would be stabbed and the car was then seized.
There was a related charge of driving a stolen car at Davis Street, Mallow, County Cork after this.
He pleaded guilty to four shoplifting offences, all occurred between January 20 and 30 2024. He stole goods totalling €370 from Blarney Woollen Mills, €925 at JD Sports in Mahon Point, €378 at Dunnes in Merchant's Quay and €390 at Tommy Hilfiger in Cork city.
The prosecution will have to ask the victims of the offences if they wish to make victim impact statements.
Defence barrister Mahon Corkery asked for a prison governor’s report on the accused in advance of sentencing.
Judge Sinead Behan adjourned the case until May 15 for such reports to be prepared for the prosecution and defence.
