The investigation of an incident at a house in Shanakiel in Cork last August involving an improvised firearm has resulted in two young men facing sentencing for their parts in the crime.

Judge Helen Boyle adjourned sentencing of the two men to different dates at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

Craig Condron, aged 22, will be sentenced on February 17. Jamie Russell, aged 25, will be sentenced on May 12.

Condron, of 76 Templeacre Avenue, Gurranabraher, Cork, affirmed his guilty pleas at Cork Circuit Criminal Court to all charges against him.

He pleaded guilty to travelling in a stolen car and two counts under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.

The first firearms charge states that at Laurel Ridge, Shanakiel, Cork, on August 23, he had a firearm, namely a 12-guage improvised shotgun, for an unlawful purpose.

The second charge relates to the same time and place and refers to the possession of ammunition — a 12-guage Winchester brand cartridge.

Russell affirmed his signed plea of guilty to charges including discharging a gunshot at a house in Cork last August.

Mr Russell, of Harbour View Road in Knocknaheeny, Cork city, also signed guilty pleas to charges of possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, and dangerous driving causing injury.

All of the offences occurred on August 23, 2024, at the house at Laurel Ridge, Shanakiel.
