Cork’s Grammy Award winner Cian Ducrot has said receiving the accolade is “absolutely unreal”.

Recognised for his collaboration with American singer, SZA, on the hit-song ‘Saturn’, Mr Ducrot featured on Cork’s 96FM yesterday to share his experience at the 67th annual Grammy Awards which was held in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The Passage-West native spoke to guest host Paul Byrne on Cork’s 96FM Opinion Line with PJ Coogan about receiving the prestigious honour, saying: “It’s like the best thing — it’s what every songwriter strives for.

“Honestly, just being nominated was enough for me, but to actually win — it’s mind-blowing.”

He added: “It’s a big win for Irish songwriting.

“I’m honoured to fly the flag for Irish music, and there are so many others who deserve Grammys too.”

The 27-year-old artist, who credits the shaping of his music career to his home town in Cork, said that it felt “surreal” when the singer reached out to him through social media to collaborate.

“SZA just found me on Instagram and invited me to work with her,” he said.

“She started improvising on the mic, and I just tried to help where I could with melodies and lyrics — the vibe was magical.”

Mr Ducrot further shared that while the experience of fame can be overwhelming, he always knew that this is the path that his career would take.

“I was probably about 13 or 14 [years old] when I realised this [song-writing] was going to be my thing,” he said.

I’d be scribbling lyrics in the back of my schoolbooks. I’m lucky that I’m 27 [years old] now, and it’s easier to take it [fame] in stride.”

Mr Ducrot saw his first album Victory, which was released in October 2023, top the album charts in Ireland and the UK.

Last summer, the singer performed a number of high profile concerts, including on his native Leeside at Virgin Media Park.

The award-winning singer-songwriter will return to Leeside this summer for a highly anticipated concert at Live at The Marquee, taking place on July 19.

“I’ve always dreamed of playing the Marquee — [I] never thought I’d be doing it with a Grammy though,” he said.

Tickets for his upcoming performance are now on sale via Ticketmaster.
