Following the late intervention of TG4 to stream live Saturday’s keenly anticipated rematch of Cork and Limerick in Supervalu Páirc Uí Chaoimh, it has now emerged that the Division 1A hurling tie will also be screened on GAAGO, the streaming service set up by the GAA in partnership with RTÉ.
TG4 sought permission to show the match after it emerged that Cork County Board and RTÉ had failed to agree to show the match, as the broadcaster wanted to show the match at 6pm to avoid clashing with the Dublin v Donegal match — which TG4 had already committed to showing on its tv channel.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Cork County Board had said they could not accommodate RTÉ’s proposed earlier throw-in, as that would mean the broadcast of the hurling match would clash with Ireland’s match against England in the Six Nations, and they didn’t want to deprive rugby fans in Cork or Limerick of the opportunity to see both matches.
TG4 sought permission to screen the Cork v Limerick match live on its app and player and, later that day, it was confirmed that the GAA had agreed to this request.
The Cork v Limerick match is one of seven games the subscription streaming service, GAAGO, will also screen this weekend.
The match is due to throw in at 7.30pm.
