2,700 homes on Cork's northside to experience disruption to water supply

Uisce Éireann has warned that homes and businesses on Cork's northside may experience reduced water pressure or supply interruptions.

Uisce Éireann has warned that 2,700 homes on the northside of Cork city will experience disruptions to water supply tonight.

The body has said that crews will be carrying out works to replace a valve and repair a burst water main on the Military Rd in St Lukes from 9pm until 1am.

As a result of the works, homes and businesses on the Old Youghal Road, Sydney Terrace, Military Hill, Sidney Hill, Sidney Place, Sidney Park, Waterloo Place, Summerhill North Rd, Wellington Rd, Alexandra Rd, Alexandra Villas, Sunmount, Farnmore, Bellview Park, Ballyhooly Rd, Gardiner's Hill, Stream Hill, Adelaide Place, Ard Na Laoi, Herbert Park, Lover's Walk, Montenotte Rd, Beale's Hill, Falcon Hill, Woodhill Park, Tivoli Estate, Woodside, Trafalgar Hill, The Acres, Tivoli Woods, Castle Avenue, Military Rd and surrounding areas may experience reduced water pressure or supply interruptions.

The essential works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s Leakage Reduction Programme and will strengthen the water supply network in the area by reducing leakage and improving the operational performance of the water network.

A traffic management plan will be in place for the duration of the works, with local and emergency access maintained.

Programme manager with Uisce Éireann, Brian McCarthy said: “Every effort will be made to reduce the impact of these works on homes and businesses and restore the water supply as quickly as possible.

“We understand the impact that outages can have on customers and would like to thank the local community in advance for their patience and co-operation during the works.”

As significant activity on the water network can give rise to increased instances of discolouration, Uisce Éireann is reminding customers that once works are completed, it typically takes three to four hours for normal supply to fully restore to all areas, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network.

Additionally, Uisce Éireann is continuing to advise customers not to drink discoloured water, and has said that if the issue remains unresolved, people can contact them directly on 1800 278 278.

For real-time updates on any water supply issues in local areas, customers can sign up to a free text alert service with their Eircode and mobile number via: https://www.water.ie/water-service-updates.
