'Blue Monday' was most certainly not the most depressing day of the year in National Lottery HQ, as a Cork based player collected €55,998 in the EuroMillions draw for Friday, January 10.

'Blue Monday' was most certainly not the most depressing day of the year in National Lottery HQ, as a Cork based player collected €55,998 in the EuroMillions draw for Friday, January 10.

The player purchased their quick pick ticket from SuperValu on Strand St in Kanturk. 

The Cork based lotto player was understandably overjoyed at their winnings. 

“I usually pick my own numbers. This time I decided to go with a quick pick. I am so glad I did! 

“I didn’t know I had won at all. I went back to the same shop to have my ticket checked," they said, adding that the win is “still yet to sink in”. 

Also, overcoming the January blues was a player from Dublin who won €40,341 matching five numbers and the bonus on Saturday, December 28's main lotto draw. 

The ticket was purchased at Shiel’s Londis, Yellow Walls Rd, Malahide, Co Dublin.

Adding to the golden Monday atmosphere in the National Lottery winners' room was a player from Co Clare, who claimed the €30,000 top prize in the Cashword Doubler scratchcard.

This Tuesday's EuroMillions draw rolls to an estimated €85m.
