Revenue seize herbal cannabis worth €70k in East Cork with help of detector dog Merlin

Revenue officers, with the assistance of detector dog Merlin, today seized approximately 3.5kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €70,000 in East Cork.
The seizure, part of an intelligence-led operation, was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue’s customs service, detector dog Merlin, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Cork Divisional Drugs Unit.

A Revenue spokesperson said a man in his 30’s was arrested by gardaí and is currently detained at a Cork garda station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.
"This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing joint investigations involving organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
