The Irish Sepsis Foundation has been announced as the latest winner of the Cork International Hotel Community Spirit Awards.

The non-profit charity, founded in September of 2022 by Cork barrister, Doireann O'Mahony, is an organisation committed to reducing the impact of sepsis on individuals and their families across the country.

Ms O’Mahony, who specialises in medical negligence litigation, decided to set up the charity after having witnessed the devastation caused by the condition through her cases on behalf of injured and bereaved clients.

The organisation was established with a passion for saving lives and improving outcomes, while working continuously to educate the public, healthcare professionals, and policymakers about the critical importance of early recognition and prompt intervention in sepsis cases.

Through awareness campaigns, educational initiatives, and support programs, the charity aims to empower individuals to recognise the signs of sepsis, seek timely medical attention, and become active partners in their healthcare journey.

Additionally, they engage with healthcare professionals to enhance their understanding of sepsis protocols, ultimately improving patient outcomes nationwide.

“I sincerely congratulate Doireann and the entire team at the Irish Sepsis Foundation on their award for their hard work and dedication to the charity,” Eoghan Murphy, general manager of the Cork International Hotel, said.

“They are working tirelessly to help in various areas around sepsis which can have such devastating effects.

“I wish Doireann and the team the very best of luck in the future.”

The Community Spirit Awards, launched in 2021, recognise people who selflessly give their time, talent and dedication to benefit others.

The judging panel for the awards are made up of a mixt of representatives from the public and private sector within the community, with nominations for the awards submitted online each month.

Nominations are now open for next month's awards via the Cork International Hotel website: www.corkinternationalairporthotel.com/.
